How Meal Services Work Within Home Care

Meal services can be funded through Support at Home or the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) when they have been recommended in an aged care assessment and included in your Support Plan.

What government funding covers:

Support at Home and CHSP subsidise the service component of meals. This includes the cost of a support worker coming to the home to prepare meals, or the preparation and delivery fee charged by a meal provider.

What you pay:

You generally pay for the raw food component—the cost of ingredients. For example, with a home-delivered meal service, the government may cover the production and delivery cost (often around 70% of the total), while you pay for the food itself and any income-tested contribution. 

Regular grocery bills are not covered, as these are considered a personal living expense.

When meal services are included in your Support Plan, you can access regular nutrition support without covering the full cost of private services.

Using our live database of home care providers, we create a Personalised Options Report tailored specifically to your situation. You’ll receive your report by email shortly after your call. It includes a focused list of providers with real availability, all of whom are experienced in meal services and in-home support.

STEP 3

Choose the Right Provider With Expert Support

Your Aged Care Specialist will walk you through your options, explain the differences between providers and help you narrow down your shortlist. Providers pay us a set, industry-standard fee on placement. Every home care provider in Australia, pays the same fee, regardless of their size and location.

Our goal is to help you find the home care providers that best suit your needs, with no pressure to choose any particular provider.

We only partner with approved Australian home care providers. For meal services, we prioritise providers who have experience with nutrition support, whether that is in-home cooking or partnerships with established services like Meals on Wheels or quality commercial meal suppliers.

We are 100% independent. Providers cannot pay to influence recommendations. Matches are based solely on your needs, location and current availability.
