What is a Home Care Package?
Home Care Packages are funded by the government
to provide home help for seniors so they can live
happily and safely in their own homes for as long as
possible, rather than move into residential aged care.
A Home Care Package provides a set amount of
money each year, allocated depending on a person’s
assessed needs. These funds can be spent on a range
of services and supports, from assistance with
domestic tasks, to nursing and medical care.
Home Care Package eligibility – To qualify for a
Home Care Package, you must be aged 65 years or
older (50+ years for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
people) and need assistance in your home.
Funds available for Home Care Package Levels 1-4
Home Care Packages are assigned across four levels according to care needs. Each Home Care Package level has a yearly budget and an approximate number or care hours provided per week.

What can Home Care Package funds be used for?
Home Care Package funds can be used to pay for
services and supports that relate to care needs.
They cannot fund everyday living expenses such
as rent, groceries, or entertainment.
How to get a Home Care Package?
To access Government funded home care services you
must complete an ACAT assessment via government
organisation My Aged Care, as well as an income and
assets test via Services Australia.
You can organise an ACAT assessment by calling
My Aged Care on 1800 200 422, or you can ask your
doctor or healthcare provider in to
provide a referral.
