“Aged Care Industry to Restrict Visitors in response to COVID-19”

In light of the recent COVID-19 situation, many aged care facilities are temporarily restricting visitors in order to protect the health and safety of their residents. At this time, Aged Care Decisions is helping families cope with this temporary change by letting people know how to prepare if you are unable to visit a loved one in aged care.

Staying in close contact either by phone, facetime, email or through calls to the facility staff will help both yourself and your loved one feel connected during this time. Aged Care Decisions is also telling the families they help to get the family to write letters, to bring in items from home and to send your loved ones lots of photos.

CEO of Aged Care Decisions, Andrew Henderson said: “Whether your loved one is just settling into aged care or whether they have been enjoying your regular visits for some time, it can be hard for families when separation is forced.”

“There are many ways to remain connected with your loved one, even if physical visits to your facility are not possible. And remember, it is temporary.”

“Ultimately, the priority for all aged care facilities at this time is that all the residents are as safe as possible,” said Andrew Henderson.

Although COVID-19 is catching a lot of industries off guard, it is important to remember that it is common for aged care facilities to restrict visitors when it comes to concerns about health. Aged care facilities are well versed in infection control and have procedures in place that aim to keep families safe – both inside and outside the facility. The best thing for families to do in the event that visiting is restricted is to remain in contact with your elderly loves ones, even if it is just over the phone.
