How Meal Services Work Within Home Care
Meal services can be funded through Support at Home or the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) when they have been recommended in an aged care assessment and included in your Support Plan.
What government funding covers:
Support at Home and CHSP subsidise the service component of meals. This includes the cost of a support worker coming to the home to prepare meals, or the preparation and delivery fee charged by a meal provider.
What you pay:
You generally pay for the raw food component—the cost of ingredients. For example, with a home-delivered meal service, the government may cover the production and delivery cost (often around 70% of the total), while you pay for the food itself and any income-tested contribution.
Regular grocery bills are not covered, as these are considered a personal living expense.
When meal services are included in your Support Plan, you can access regular nutrition support without covering the full cost of private services.

Take the Uncertainty Out of Choosing Home Care Meal Services
Good nutrition is essential for staying safe and independent at home. If shopping has become difficult, cooking feels unsafe, or you just need clarity on how Support at Home funding applies to meals, the right service can make a real difference.
Meal services are flexible and designed to fit the person’s routine. Support is practical and respectful, and nothing happens without agreement.
What meal services typically include:
- In-home meal preparation: a support worker shops for groceries and prepares fresh meals in the person’s own kitchen
- Home-delivered meals: hot, chilled or frozen meals delivered to the door by trusted providers such as Meals on Wheels or approved commercial services
- Nutritionally appropriate meals: dietitian-assessed options that meet new government standards and can be tailored to health needs (e.g., texture-modified, diabetic-friendly or culturally specific)
- A friendly check-in: many services include a quick welfare visit during preparation or delivery, providing reassurance for families

Home Care FAQ's
Is your service really free for families?
Yes, our service is 100% free for families. There are no hidden fees and no obligations whatsoever.

Our goal is to help you find the home care providers that best suit your needs, with no pressure to choose any particular provider.
How are the home care providers selected?
We only partner with approved Australian home care providers. For meal services, we prioritise providers who have experience with nutrition support, whether that is in-home cooking or partnerships with established services like Meals on Wheels or quality commercial meal suppliers.

No. You are under no obligation to choose any of the providers we recommend. Our goal is to give you clear, available options so you can decide what feels right.
